The Island Records record label approached him in 2014, and he signed a deal with them. In the same year, Mendes released his first single Life of the Party, that was such a hit, that Mendes became the youngest singer to debut in the top 25 on the US Billboard Hot 100.
Mendes appeared as a guest artist on The Vamps' debut album Meet the Vamps and on Austin Mahone's debut EP Extended Play in 2013.
Shawn Mendes released his first album Handwritten in 2015. The same year, Mendes opened for Taylor Swift, during 1989 World Tour in North America. In 2016, Mendes released his second album Illuminate.
