Idris Elba has reacted to the recent pictures of paramedics and police tending to victims of a mass stabbing involving 30 teenagers on an estate in South London, and he’s made a plea to the youth in the city, to just put down the knife and look at the future.
Elba was born in London Borough of Hackney, and he is still living in the United Kingdom's capital.
Known for his roles in big movie titles such as RocknRolla (2008), Thor (2011), Prometheus (2012), The Jungle Book (2016), The Dark Tower (2017) and most recently Avengers: Infinity War (2018), Elba tried to use his popularity and influence London's youth.
The famous 45-year-old actor says: Look in the mirror and ask yourself, 'Where do you want to end up?' It is really clear. You can end up in jail for stabbing someone. Put the knife down, go somewhere else and make a career.
Elba's interest about this incident doesn't surprise, because he will soon have his directorial debut in theaters worldwide.
Yardie (2018) is set in 1970s Kingston and 1980s Hackney, and it centers on the life of a young Jamaican man named D, who has never fully recovered from the murder, committed during his childhood.
Yardie (2018) will premiere on August 31, this Friday.
