Eva Longoria is giving hit Spanish TV drama The Embassy an English-language makeover for American audiences. The Desperate Housewives star has teamed up with writer and former Empire and The Handmaid's Tale executive producer Ilene Chaiken to develop the pilot for network bosses at ABC.
Longoria will adapt La embajada (2016), a TV series about the new Spanish ambassador in Thailand, who tries to clean the embassy from any trace of corruption.
A couple of networks battled over the rights for the show, but it seems that the ABC has won this round.
The upcoming television series The Ambassador will premiere on their network, and the pilot episode is expected any time soon.
The American version of the series will be about a very rich and politically connected U.S. Ambassador to France, who dies suddenly in a freak accident and is replaced by his much younger, unqualified third wife.
